How do we do that, you might wonder?  Well let me share...

 

Recently I set up a meeting between four people I know.  Two are heavy-hitters in the non profit world and effect change for large numbers of hurting people.  One is a financial guru who built a strong, successful business and is now reaching out to make the world a better place rather than just earning more wealth.  Finally the fourth is a successful creative master in the Entertainment world who also has a heart for giving back.

 

When I set up the breakfast, I had a vision of what I wanted to accomplish by introducing these four people to each other.  It was brilliant and beautiful in my carefully planned weaving together of these four lives.  Guess what, that's what our brain does - focuses on an outcome it can control and starts driving towards it for results.  Normal, natural helpful even.

 

Yet something wonderful happened on the way to breakfast.  I was delayed by an important call and instead of getting there 20 minutes early to make sure I could greet and introduce everyone, I was there a scant three minutes early.  On time really.

 

Guess what, they were all early.  All four of them found each other and were deep in conversation when I arrived.  It was not the tack I had planned on taking, these conversations.  They were off into uncharted territory and scaling great heights of what was possible and meaningful.

 

I had to laugh.  It occurred to me to offer up my vision of what I originally brought them together to accomplish and indeed before the breakfast was over, I made one modest foray into that conversational territory.  They were polite and respectful, but not the least bit inspired.  

 

So I let go of trying to make this happen.  I gave up control and sat back to witness the whole of the parts being much bigger than the sum I started out with in my mind.  In other words, they were doing the heavy lifting on bigger projects than I envisioned and it required only that I let it happen.

 

How often do we rail at those moments wishing for a different outcome.  How easy it is to cling to control when Power with all it's flow and muscle is available when we are open to it?  Our brain attaches to an outcome, yet that doesn't mean we have to stay attached.  

 

Is there some idea or opinion you're attached to that's making you cranky, irritable or just plain uncomfortable.  It's possible that you are choosing control when you have Power being offered instead. 

 

Look at it again with fresh eyes.  You may be pleasantly surprised.  I know I am - on a regular basis.  Power is so much more collective so my ego doesn't get quite as much kick, but oh how much more gets done...

 

I encourage you to be as powerful as you are.  It's so much richer to live there and so much bigger, too.  How big can you be if you let go of control?  A shift like that practiced regularly can make a huge impact in not only your life but all of those around you.  Tempted???
