I want to help you bring your pain down...
I've received a slow, steady stream of emails asking about the recording from my call last month about dealing with pain. Pain seems to be a fairly large struggle these days. So I thought I would risk reaching out to you twice in one week to see if I can share some information that might help.
Pain is part of our survival system and is wired into our biology. A nerve gets pinged and sends the information to our brain that says 'ouch'. Here's one interesting part - our body has the ability to store data on what hurt it and use that to guard us against future pain. You can see it when someone flinches even before a blow lands. As we grow we add mental and emotional pain to the physical pain range.
Fear of pain is a link that is wired in and it becomes it's own delivery system. Avoiding pain due to fear winds up causing more mental and emotional pain than the physical pain alone ever did! Are you starting to see the issue?
As babies we have only two fears we come package with, first is falling and second is loud noises. Everything else is a learned behavior. Interesting, right? I thought so...
Because if we can learn something, that means we can unlearn it as well. HMMMMMMM, isn't that good news.
What it takes to rewire the brain is a combination of thinking, feeling and action all wired together in one place. Which means you can use that combination to help overwrite the brain's learned response to all fears/pain that aren't physical. (Then you have to repeat it often enough to rewire the brain)
You can also rewire your brain to ignore physical pain - but if you aren't an Olympic athlete I don't see much demand for that.
This is why I have taught the 'Breath of Love" to so many of my clients. It's a way to retrain the brain and self soothe that is free, legal and no one will look twice at you for doing it, since last I checked everyone is breathing...
For those new to the email community and those who like a reminder, 'Breath of Love' is a way to flip our brain out of survival mode(pain anticipatory and pain avoidant state) and into learning mode.
You start with an exhale - I use red lights for my trigger because I loathe stopping when I want to get somewhere. Why not use them to retrain, hmmm? So as soon as I see a red light I exhale. I don't inhale and then exhale, I immediately force all the air out of my lungs. That's A KEY PIECE TO THIS. You don't inhale first which is brain stem and survival behavior. You exhale and I mean wring those lungs OUT.
That's like a big breaker switch that puts the conscious brain in command instead of the brainstem. The conscious mind or frontal lobe is what rules higher learning. So now you have the frontal lobe in command, you empty those lungs all the way before you take a nice slow deep breath in with your hand on your belly.
Think to yourself, 'I am safe' while you inhale with your attention on your belly. Then on the exhale you think, 'I am loved'. Those words are chosen carefully. You see we have two survival needs wired into us as infants.
The first need is to belong so we are taken care of and can survive. After all we are a pretty helpless infant. No standing and walking the first day we are born... So saying 'I am safe' reassures your brain stem (survival brain) that your commander is in charge and all is well. It learns to relax and trust you.
Next you go to 'I am loved' on the exhale. This second need is why we have sibling rivalry and much of the politics in the world. We are wired for power as a survival mechanism. If we were 'special' to someone or powerful it means we have a better chance of surviving.
So 'I am safe' on the inhale and 'I am loved' on the exhale with your hand on your belly can help you start to rewire the brain for most mental and emotional pain. It is powerful the stories I have had clients share as to how this simple, portable, legal exercise has come in handy.
After all, we can go roughly 40 days without food before we die, about 7-8 days without water before we die and let's see how many minutes without breath. So you tune into you and retrain your brain every time you do this, which brings down a lot of the noise from the edges.
For those of you who really need some support right now, I am doing a special two night teleclass starting next Wednesday at 6:30pm. I am limiting it to the first six people
so we can really tackle the issues and get you hooked into the right brain retraining for you. It's the Less Pain Brain Retrain Class!
We will follow it up the following Wednesday night to anchor the exercises and help you navigate effectively retraining your brain. It's my commitment to you to see that those who need the extra help get it. That's also why the cost of two hours in class with a limited size is less than one hour with me. It is more than 60% off for this class...
If you want help, I want to make it affordable and ensure you can turn this corner so your brain is working with you rather than against you. I know it works and want that for you.
So for the lucky six to sign on, I'm looking forward to starting this together next Wednesday 5/8 at 6:30pm pst.
You will have work out buddies for the brain retraining to help make sure what you are doing works - that's another reason for the small class size. This work is a manageable amount of time for a real return on investment - the reward is LESS PAIN.
Sign up here... and join me in retraining your brain for less pain!
